Motorcyclist Gets Back on the Bike After Joint Replacements

Mike Franchescina suffered from chronic pain after a 22-year long career in the military. His back, knees, and shoulder were in constant pain due to degenerative arthritis. He made the decision to have joint replacements and met with Dr. Matt Lilley to discuss having both knees and shoulder replaced. Mike and Dr. Lilley developed a plan to have them done over the course of several years. Less than two weeks later, he was riding on his Harley-Davidson Road King with his 11-year-old daughter when an automobile suddenly pulled out and crashed into them. Luckily, his daughter was fine, but Mike had a dislocated shoulder, injured knee, and broken leg after the accident. Dr. Lilley was there to repair the damage and at that point Mike decided to get all of his joint replacements done within the year. His goal was to ride his motorcycles again and Dr. Lilley and his care team were there to help him do that.

Today, Mike rides a little more cautiously. He wears additional protective gear because, “I don’t want to mess my joints up. There are too many people that invested so much into helping me heal and repair my body.” He is so appreciative of everyone at The Center. “Dr. Lilley, Landon, and Jess changed my life. They mean it when they say they want to see their patients get back to what they love doing.”
