ABOUT Dr. Margaret Pennington

Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Pennington is a specialist in hand and upper extremity surgery, focusing on conditions affecting everything from the upper arm to the fingertip. Her expertise covers a wide range of issues such as fractures, tendon and ligament damage, arthritis, nerve-related conditions, and other soft tissue injuries. She is committed to delivering personalized care, collaborating closely with each patient to make decisions together. She explores conservative options before considering surgery, all aimed at helping her patients achieve their goals.

Dr. Pennington pursued a career in medicine because she is passionate about helping others maintain optimal health, allowing them to live life to the fullest. Her journey into hand surgery began as a medical student during two mission trips to Honduras, where she had the opportunity to perform hand surgeries for underserved communities. This experience ignited her passion for the field, leading her to complete a five-year orthopedic residency in Boston, Massachusetts. This was followed by a one-year fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she had the opportunity to train under the orthopedic upper extremity surgeons for the Philadelphia professional sports teams. Those experiences shaped her expertise and reinforced her commitment to providing exceptional care for all patients with hand and upper extremity conditions.

Outside of work, Dr. Pennington enjoys staying active through a variety of hobbies, including golfing, hiking, trail running, biking, and skiing. She enjoys spending time with her family and also loves to cook, bake, and cheer on her favorite Philadelphia sports teams.
