As a fellowship trained joint replacement surgeon, Dr. King specializes in treating patients with hip and knee arthritis, beginning with non-operative approaches. His goal is always to treat patients conservatively with therapies or medication before considering surgery. When total joint replacement surgery is necessary, he uses advanced technology and minimally invasive approaches, including direct anterior hip replacement, to help deliver the best possible patient outcomes.
Dr. King first became interested in medicine in high school when he volunteered as a firefighter and EMT. In medical school, he quickly gravitated to orthopaedic surgery and found it extremely rewarding to help patients get back to doing what they love. During his residency at the University of Chicago, the busiest level 1 trauma center in the city, he also gained an interest in caring for orthopaedic trauma patients. He completed his fellowship training under Dr. Christopher Peters at the University of Utah, one of the top joint replacement programs in the country.
The most gratifying part of being a total joint surgeon is hearing from his patients after recovery, excited to share what they are able to do following hip or knee surgery. He enjoys working with the multidisciplinary team and delivering the highest quality joint replacement care to Central Oregon. He enjoys hiking, skiing, woodworking, traveling, cooking, and exploring the outdoors with his wife and dog.

When Phil Meglasson, namesake of “Phil’s Trail” first started experiencing pain, he thought it was his back and tried to push through it. When the pain got so bad that he thought he wouldn’t be able to ride his bike, he went to see Dr. King for an evaluation. The x-ray showed that the cartilage in his left hip had worn away and the bone was grinding on bone, so much so that his left leg was three millimeters shorter than his right one. He needed a total hip replacement to relieve the pain and be able to continue mountain biking. Click here to watch him tell his story in a short video.
After a few years of consistent pain, Yolanda was surprised at age 54 to learn that she needed total hip replacement surgery. As a food truck owner and operator, as well as a server, getting out of pain was crucial to be able to continue with her way of life. She is passionate about cooking and serving food and loves being around people. At that time, she couldn’t even go to the grocery store or do activities of daily living without pain. She believed that she was going to have to give up the Saucy Senorita food truck and her ability to be a server. Watch a video of Yolanda’s story by clicking here.
“Dr. King and his team at the Center for Orthopedics and Cascade Surgicenter have been wonderful. From the initial visit, through the hip replacement and follow up care, he has been attentive and kind, answering my questions and putting my mind at ease. The replacement itself has healed far quicker than my first one of three years ago, I was off the strong meds in 8 days and off the walker in 12. Now just 7 weeks out, I’m off the cane and driving again. I recommend Dr. King and the Center to anyone who is considering a hip replacement – don’t worry about it, just go for it and feel better sooner.” – Carol Martin
