The Center for Wound Care
The Center for Wound Care
originally was established to provide patients with a multidisciplinary
approach to total diabetic foot care. It has expanded to include not just
diabetic wounds but many other wound types, including burns, post-surgical
care, and chronic wounds.
What Is the Goal of Wound Care?
The goal of wound care is to help all types of patients
heal quickly and properly. The length of healing time required will vary with
the individual. If you ask a doctor how long it will take to heal after a
operation, he will give you a broad time frame because each person heals
differently. Some patients’ cuts will close quickly, while others need to be
covered and dressed for an extended time. In addition some people suffer from
chronic wounds, such as ulcers that a diabetic patient may develop on her feet,
or thermal burns that will not heal. Such wounds require careful ongoing care
and treatment to alleviate discomfort and prevent further complications.
What’s Special About the Center for Wound Care?
Many wound care clinics only change the dressing and
perform general cleaning of the wound. However, the staff of the Center for
Wound Care includes a medical surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey A. Holmboe, who is a
specialist in wound care and Orthopedic foot surgery. Dr. Holmboe is at the
leading edge of knowledge in the area of healing techniques and the latest
developments in dressings. In addition Dr. Holmboe also performs “sharp
debridement,” a procedure that ensures the wound is fully evacuated and no
debris can affect the healing process.
