Pre Operation Questions
THESE INSTRUCTIONS
ARE NOT MEANT TO REPLACE ANY INFORMATION GIVEN TO YOU BY YOUR PERSONAL

A nurse from the hospital will be calling you THE
DAY BEFORE YOUR SURGERY. The purpose of the call is to:

Tell you what time you need to arrive at the hospital.

Tell you where to arrive.
-
Inform you of what medicines to take, or not to take,
the day of your surgery.

Complete and update your medical history.

And answer any questions you may have.
If you will not be at your home number the day before
or the day of surgery, please call the hospital and give them a contact number
where you can be reached.

Here are some important pre-operative instructions you
will want to read and follow prior to your surgery:

No food or drink after midnight the night before your
surgery, unless specified by your anesthesiologist. If they state you
may have clear liquids the morning of your surgery, make sure you know what
time to stop having the clear liquids. Clear liquids include water, coffee or
tea without milk products, clear broth, non-particulate juices, soda pop,
Jell-O, Popsicle, candy and gum. Chewing tobacco is not
allowed on the day of surgery.

Some medications you are taking may need to be skipped
the day of surgery, please follow the instructions from the surgery facility as
to which medications to take, and which not to take the day of your surgery.
There are a number of medicines, both prescription and herbal/over-the-counter,
that may interfere with blood clotting. Check with your surgeon about whether
or not you should discontinue them prior to your surgery.

Regardless of what type of procedure you are having,
please arrange to have someone drive you home from surgery.

Please have a responsible adult with you until the
morning after your surgery.

Normal morning toiletries such as shaving, showering,
brushing your teeth, and using deodorant are fine unless your surgeon says
otherwise. Please, dont shave the area where surgery is to be done.

Do not wear nail polish or makeup.

Please wear casual, loose fitting clothes that are easy
to get on and off.

Wear your glasses (please bring a case); leave your
contacts at home.

Wear your dentures, partials and hearing aids.
